James Mable, Jr. is a native of Navasota, Texas, and a multifaceted leader whose life reflects the power of faith, resilience, and purpose. Born to Pastor James Mable, Sr. and Mary Harvey Mable, he credits his strong spiritual upbringing as the foundation of the unwavering faith that continues to guide his journey. A proud graduate of Navasota High School’s Class of 2003, Dr. Mable pursued higher education with distinction at Prairie View A&M University, where he earned his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Education by 2014. His academic accomplishments laid the groundwork for a dynamic career that seamlessly bridges education, ministry, and music.

In 2009, Dr. Mable’s audition for Sunday Best on BET Networks marked the beginning of his professional music journey, which has since grown into a nationally recognized ministry. In 2015, he was appointed Youth Pastor and Worship Leader at Antioch Baptist Church in Beaumont, Texas, where he further cultivated his passion for both ministry and music. 

Dr. Mable’s music career has flourished through a series of impactful releases. In 2018, he debuted two singles, followed by a signing with Uncle G Records in 2019. His breakout single, “I’m Free,” earned placement on the Billboard Gospel Charts and garnered consideration for both Grammy Awards and Dove Awards. His soulful rendition of “Joy to the World” and his 2021 single, “It Shall Pass”—which reached #1 on the Billboard Gospel Indicator Chart— solidified his presence in the gospel music industry. His most recent single, “Lord You Are Good,” peaked at #34 on the Billboard Gospel Charts, further establishing him as a compelling and inspirational voice.

Dr. Mable served as the Worship Leader at the Crossover Bible Fellowship Church in Houston, TX under the leadership of Pastor Blake Wilson from August of 2021 to February of 2023. Expanding his artistic reach, Dr. Mable secured a role in the Broadway musical Dreamgirls in 2021. His 2020 album, The Journey 2.0, chronicles both his personal and spiritual evolution, reflecting a life shaped by trials and triumphs—including a remarkable recovery from paralysis following a life-altering car accident. .

Dr. Mable continues to serve the faith community with unwavering commitment. Since 2017, he has served as Worship Leader at Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church. In October 2024, he was appointed Associate Director of Music & Arts at Reid Temple AME Church, one of the largest congregations in the African Methodist Episcopal denomination. On April 9, 2026, Dr. Mable received the prestigious honor of induction into the 41st Annual Martin Luther King Jr. College of Ministers & Laity Board of Preachers at Morehouse College —a distinguished recognition of his ministry, leadership, and enduring impact.

In July 2026, Dr. Mable was appointed Minister of Music at Reid Temple AME Church in Glenn Dale, Maryland. A respected speaker, minister, and psalmist, Dr. James Mable, Jr. has shared platforms with some of the most prominent voices in gospel music.
